WHY STUDY ABROAD?

INVALUABLE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

When studying abroad, actually living in an English speaking country and participating in that country's native culture, students can greatly improve language skills in a comparatively shorter period of time. Learning through real life experience is the most efficient and fun way to gain familiarity with the English language and the culture of the host country.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

While studying abroad, you will be faced with many different challenges that will require you to be resourceful and creative in finding solutions. The result of facing and overcoming such challenges is an increase in self-confidence and maturation. Also, when adapting to life in a foreign country, you will develop a sense of flexibility in coping with complex situations.

CAREER PATH

The need for individuals who can communicate effectively with the people of different nations and cultures is greatly increasing. While living in a foreign country, you will have the opportunity to obtain these communication skills. In a global world, the communication and personal skills developed while studying abroad will have merit when used in combination with other professional skills in your future career path.

EXPENSES TO CONSIDER

Just as the types of ESL schools in different countries vary, so do the cost of education. Cost may be a major factor in deciding which school to attend. The most expensive fees incurred when studying abroad are airfare, tuition, housing fees, and food expenses. Once classes have actually begun, you will find that commuting fees, school supplies, and medical insurance can also be expensive. The amount of money you will need to study abroad will depend on various factors such as the country you choose, the type of program, and the length of time that you spend studying abroad. The cheapest country that offers quality ESL classes and offers great opportunity for an international student is Canada.

EXAMPLE OF STUDY ABROAD EXPENSES

In Canada, ESL tuition can cost anywhere from $150 - $700 per or more week. Housing fees can differ greatly depending on the area surrounding the school. The cost of meals may be included in the cost of housing, but in any case, students can expect to pay about $100 - $200 dollars per week for this. Also, you will be required to pay for telephone bills, clothes, fun with friends, and other living expenses. It depends on the person, and as well as, the country where you will be studying. There will be students who spend close to $10,000 and others who might spend up to $30,000 in a single year studying abroad.

TIPS FOR SAVING

PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Regardless of where you study, private career colleges and Community college Campuses are comparatively less expensive than a university. However, you should not choose a school-based purely on tuition costs alone. Remember, it is not necessarily. The case that a school with higher tuition cost provide higher quality education, just as a school with lower tuition cost doesn't necessarily mean a lower quality of education

URBAN VS. RURAL

Living expenses in urban areas are inevitably more expensive than in rural areas. For the student with a tighter budget living in rural areas is a more economical option. Yet, there are certain experiences that cannot be experienced while living in the countryside that is available in metropolitan areas. It is definitely advantageous for those people who appreciate the fine arts to select an urban area; many museums, performance halls, and theatres can only be found in metropolitan areas. In the city, this type of person will definitely be able to make the most of their free time.

DIFFERENCES IN THE COST OF COURSES

At some language schools, course prices vary greatly based on the number of lessons per week, course contents, and the class environment. Courses with more lessons per week are more expensive than those with few subjects. Courses, where specific subjects are taught together with English, tend to cost more than General English Courses. Private lessons cost more than classes with many students. The more expensive courses will run all day long every day. However, some schools offer discounted courses to students who are willing to commit to studying for a longer term.

DIFFERENCES IN THE COST OF HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS

Living by oneself in a single apartment is usually the most expensive student-housing option offered by the schools. However, for those students who wish to live in an apartment but cannot afford by themselves, sharing the cost with roommates is a good way to greatly reduce living expenses. In a similar fashion, a single room in a dormitory is more expensive than a shared room. Try sharing a room with a roommate, and in doing so take better control of your living expenses. Keep in mind that having a roommate can also provide you with an English conversation partner. The homestay option may be the overall most affordable housing option, as meals are usually included in the cost. Many students find that homestays are an ideal option as host families provide them with the best opportunity to learn about the country they are living in, and share new experiences with one's adopted family abroad.

COST OF AIRFARE

Travelling abroad during summer can be very expensive as it is the peak season for travel and study abroad. A great way to cut down on the cost of airfare is to fly during the different season, or you may contact iTRAVEL to assist you with your flight and find the best deals to compare, and then you decide.
